Gesture beats touch, says Intel CTO

The touchscreen input on the upcoming Apple iPhone is not quite up to snuff, according to Intel Chief Technology Officer Justin Rattner (photo below shows the Intel CTO explaining gesture input). With new graphics capabilities, says Rattner, gesture-based technology will prove to be a much smarter and more efficient user interface. Raytracing technology instead of image pixelation is the magic behind those vastly more powerful graphics architectures that Intel has started to show around.
Nintendo´s Wii remote control is already much closer to Rattner´s favored UI philosophy – although “in a somewhat simpler way than what we can do”. 3D objects are becoming ubiquitous and reactive enough to be used and manipulated outside of traditional 3D CAD programs, says Intel´s chief technologist. Doctors, for instance, will be able to browse through loads of medical records and images using just their hands – no need to touch a mouse or keyboard.
